Serbia to vice-chair Executive Council of UNWTO

Serbia has been chosen as the vice-chair of the Executive Council of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for 2017.

During this time the chair will be Azerbaijan, the Serbian Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications said on Wednesday.

Tourism is recognized as one of the priority sectors in the Serbian government’s agenda, said Deputy Minister of Tourism Renata Pindzo, at the 104th session of the Executive Council of UNWTO in Luxor, Egypt.

Serbia invests into regional cooperation and initiatives for creating a joint tourism product with the aim of attracting tourists from far-away markets, especially China and South Korea.

Pindzo stressed that Serbia will actively participate in marking 2017 as the year of sustainable tourism, and backed the UNWTO’s idea to form a work group for security in tourism, having in mind the contemporary challenges tourism faces.
