Serbia will have the highest economic growth in Europe this year

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said that Serbia will be the most successful country in Europe in terms of economic growth this year.
“Not only will we not have a drop in gross domestic product (GDP) of less than two this year, but there will also be no negative growth. We will be the first country in Europe in terms of growth rate, we will be the most successful,” Vucic told reporters.
As he pointed out, such a result is a consequence of the difficult reforms that have been implemented since 2014, as well as the record growth of foreign investments.
“In the first quarter of this year, foreign direct investments amounted to 837 million euros, which is an increase of 3.7 percent compared to the same period in 2019, even though we had 20 days of the epidemic in March,” Vucic said.
He added that by the end of the year, there will be problems with investments and exports, but smaller than expected.
“That is why we will increase public investments, and the incentive for growth will be a ‘helicopter money’, ie money paid to citizens, such as aid of 35 euros to pensioners, 100 euros to all adult citizens, a 10 percent increase in salaries for health workers,” Vucic said.
Commenting on the recent promise that salaries in the public sector will be increased by the end of the year, Vucic said that he could not say now how much the increase would be, but that it would certainly not be one, two or three percent, N1 reports.
