The Serbian-Chinese Industrial Park Mihajlo Pupin project was the focus of a meeting between Serbian Minister of Economy, Adrijana Mesarević, and representatives of the Chinese company China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).
As Mesarević shared on her Instagram profile, she had a “constructive discussion” with the Chinese delegation about the steps toward implementing the project. She also announced the imminent arrival of CRBC management in Serbia for more detailed talks regarding investment opportunities.
“A large number of companies have expressed interest in starting their operations in this park. Today, I spoke with the company management about their upcoming visit to our country, where they will discuss investment opportunities in Serbia in detail. Serbia cannot afford to stop,” the Deputy Prime Minister wrote on Instagram.
The construction of the park, a project being jointly developed by the Government of Serbia and the Chinese state-owned company CRBC, has been in the planning stages for years.
The Serbian-Chinese Industrial Park “Mihajlo Pupin” is intended to be one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in Serbia. In 2018, the Serbian Ministry of Finance signed an agreement with CRBC in Beijing to build the park. In November 2019, it was announced that construction of the industrial park in Borča would begin in late March 2020. The financing of the project was also discussed during a meeting with representatives from the Bank of China, which confirmed that it would finance all companies coming from China to the industrial park. However, the construction was delayed due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Located on the left bank of the Danube, near the Pupin Bridge, the park will cover an area of 320 hectares, with an additional 180 hectares designated for supporting infrastructure, totaling more than 500 hectares. The project is a result of cooperation between the Serbian government and CRBC, with its implementation planned in three phases.
