Serbian Minister of Finance Siniša Mali met with the Ambassador of Mexico to Serbia, Carlos Félix Corona, to explore opportunities for economic cooperation between the two countries and to encourage stronger business ties through their respective chambers of commerce.
“Serbia holds great respect for Mexico and values its interest in expanding areas of cooperation with the aim of fostering strong diplomatic and more intensive economic relations,” Minister Mali said during the meeting at the Ministry of Finance.
He added that Mexican entrepreneurs are an inspiration due to their drive for development and market competitiveness, emphasizing that Mexico is a friendly and important partner for Serbia.
Both Mali and Ambassador Félix Corona underscored the importance of maintaining political dialogue on the global stage. Mali noted that Serbia would be honored by a visit from the President of Mexico.
The Finance Minister reiterated Serbia’s commitment to the EU accession process, stating that the country is working diligently to meet all regulatory requirements by 2026. In the meantime, Serbia is leveraging trade agreements with neighboring EU countries to reduce costs related to customs, taxes, and duties for its businesses.
“This strategic position gives Serbia a competitive edge and highlights the country’s economic potential,” said Mali.
He also briefed Ambassador Corona on the progress of preparations for the upcoming EXPO exhibition, which Serbia will host. So far, 110 countries have confirmed their participation, with expectations that the number will rise to 130—making the Belgrade EXPO the largest international specialized exhibition to date.
“We currently have the most active construction site in Europe, which sends a strong message to the world about how much Serbia has changed and how committed we are to sustainable development,” Mali concluded.
Ambassador Félix Corona emphasized that Mexican businesses have traditionally focused on North America, but the pandemic taught the world the importance of diversifying economic risks. He highlighted the need for stronger cooperation through national chambers of commerce to connect the Serbian and Mexican economies more closely.
“We want to expand our cooperation. The potential is significant, and we will work to bring Mexican entrepreneurs to Serbia,” said the ambassador.
He also praised the strong diplomatic and cultural ties between the two nations, noting that more than 50 Mexican authors have had their books translated into Serbian, reflecting a deep cultural connection.
