The Serbian government has allocated an additional 236 million dinars (approximately 2 million euros) from the budget reserve to the Basketball Federation of Serbia (KSS), Nova Ekonomija reports. The funds are intended to provide financial support for the regular operations of KSS, according to the decision published in the Official Gazette.
This transfer comes less than a week after a previous allocation of 118 million dinars (just over 1 million euros) to KSS at the end of September. Earlier, in June, around 5 million euros from the budget reserve were transferred to both the Football Association of Serbia and KSS for their regular operations, while one month prior, KSS received 398.1 million dinars.
Between 2018 and 2023, sports federations received 65 million euros from the budget reserve. The Fiscal Council noted in its 2024 report that sports financing relies excessively on the current budget reserve, emphasizing the need to improve budget planning in this area.
Separately, the Serbian government also allocated 25.51 million dinars from the budget reserve to cover salaries at the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications and the Republic Seismological Institute. Of this amount, 2.66 million dinars will go to the Seismological Institute, and 22.85 million dinars to the Ministry of Information, according to the decision signed by Prime Minister Đuro Macut. The funds are intended to cover missing amounts needed for employee salaries, allowances, and social contributions.
