Serbia’s budget surplus is 112.7 million euros at the end of January, public debt is 53.7 percent of GDP

A surplus of 112.7 million euros was realized in the republic budget of Serbia at the end of January 2021, the Ministry of Finance announced. Serbia’s public debt amounted to 27.14 billion euros at the end of January 2021, which is 53.7 percent of the gross domestic product.
Revenues of 938 million euros were collected, of which tax revenues amounted to 794 million euros.
The largest part of tax revenues in the amount of 370 million euros refers to the payment of VAT, while revenues from excises amounted to 283 million euros.
Non-tax revenues amounted to 106 million euros, and the inflow of donations amounted to 36 million euros.
At the level of the general government, a fiscal surplus of 98 million euros and a primary fiscal surplus of 28.8 billion were realized in January.
According to the annual plan for the execution of the general government budget, a fiscal deficit in the amount of 167.7 million euros is planned for January.
General government debt is 54.5 percent of GDP, according to the finance ministry.

The share of public debt in GDP in January decreased by 3.7 percent compared to December 2020, when it was 57.4 percent.
Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said in late February that Serbia’s public debt was lower than it had been before the pandemic and would not grow significantly until the end of the year, which he said was “an incredible success, given that all countries in the world multiplied public debt due to borrowing during the coronavirus pandemic.”
The level of Serbian debt is significantly below the EU limit of 60 percent of GDP, which was determined by the Maastricht Agreement, RTS reports.
