Serbia’s foreign trade deficit drops by 21.9 percent

Serbian foreign trade deficit in the first half of the year was USD 3.13 billion, a decrease of 21.9 percent against last year.

This was announced by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (RZS) on Wednesday.

Year-on-year, Serbia’s exports for the January-June 2013 period amounted to USD 6.55 billion, an increase of 21.8 percent, while imports were up by 3.2 percent at USD 9.68 billion.

The export-import ratio was 67.7 percent, higher when compared to the same period last year, when it was 57.3 percent.

Serbia’s major foreign trade partners in exports in the reference period were Italy, Germany, Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Russian Federation and Montenegro.

The major foreign trade partners in imports were Italy, Germany, the Russian Federation, China and Hungary.

The external trade in the reference period was highest with the counties with which Serbia has signed agreements on free trade. European Union member countries account for 60.8 percent of total external trade.

Serbia’s second major partner is the CEFTA countries. It’s trade surplus with these countries amounted to USD 737.5 million.
