The Minister of Environmental Protection, Irena Vujovic, stated today that the issuance of the first green Eurobond on the international market worth one billion euros intended for environmental projects is an indicator of Serbia’s commitment to investments in environmental protection and fulfilling the goals of the Green Agenda.
According to her, the funds from the issued bonds will be used to finance and refinance capital green projects, such as wastewater treatment plants and construction of sewerage network, drinking water treatment plants, waste collection, processing and recycling, investment in renewable sources of energy, biodiversity conservation, pollution prevention and other projects that are important for raising environmental standards and improving the quality of life of citizens.
– Environment is one of the main priorities of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and we are the first country in the region to issue green Eurobonds on the international financial market and thus provide financing for environmental projects under very favorable conditions. This is a great thing for Serbia, because by investing in environmental protection, in addition to solving decades-long problems in our country, we also ensure a cleaner future for future generations – said Vujovic.
The Minister reminded that the budget of the relevant ministry has already been increased by 33.8 million euros this year, and added that the provision of additional funds for environmental projects on the international market is a confirmation of the largest investments so far in that area, Novosti reports.
