The value of the Serbian IT market in 2021 will exceed 700 million euros, while the export of computer services is expected to reach 1.7 billion euros, with a growth of 30 percent compared to 2020, said ICT market analyst and director of consulting company Mineco- Computers Milovan Matijević in “Review of IT trends in 2021.”

Matijevic states that the export of computer services in the world in the period 2016-2020 increased at an average annual rate of 12 percent, and that in 2020 it reached 500 billion euros.

“Serbia took the 42nd position in 2016, while according to the data for 2020, it climbed to the 36th place. It is estimated that in 2021 it further advanced on the ranking list by one or two positions. Compared to the surrounding countries, according to the value of exports of computer services, Romania and Hungary are better ranked than us, while in relation to Bulgaria and all other “smaller neighbors”, Serbia is ranked better,” says Matijevic in the analysis.

He also points out that Serbia’s share in the global export of IT services is around 0.3 percent, and estimates that there is room for further growth, but that this will require IT experts who are still missing.

“For example, in order to reach two billion euros in IT services exports next year, according to the current work model where outsourcing is the dominant part of Serbian IT exports, we need an additional nearly 10,000 IT experts. If the focus shifs, five to six thousand people would be short of exporting their own software solutions,” Matijevic emphasizes, RTV reports.
