The Republic Statistical Office (RZS) of Serbia announced that, as of December 1, 2024, there was a 3.7% decrease in the cattle population compared to the previous year. However, the number of pigs increased by 9.7%, sheep by 2.5%, and poultry by 3.5%.
Cattle farming is concentrated in Šumadija and Western Serbia, which account for 45.6% of the country’s total cattle population, while pigs are mostly raised in Vojvodina, representing 43.7%. Compared to the 10-year average (2014-2023), there was a significant decrease in the number of cattle (down by 19.5%), pigs (down by 18.4%), and poultry (down by 7.0%), while the number of sheep has risen by 3.0%.
Final data on livestock numbers by species and categories, as well as data on livestock production, will be published in April.
