Serbia will see its minimum wage fully cover the cost of the minimum consumer basket for the first time, starting January 1, 2026, according to Minister of Labor and Employment Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski. She stated that the new increase raises the minimum wage coverage from 60% in 2012 to 111% by next year, marking a historic milestone for workers.
The minister emphasized that the government balanced the interests of both employers and employees, aiming to protect workers without risking job losses. She noted that cumulative wage growth over the past year reached 38%, while the number of minimum-wage earners fell from 500,000 in 2012 to 90,000 today.
Đurđević Stamenkovski also highlighted programs to support war veterans and military invalids, including stays at specialized facilities and enhanced veteran recognition. She confirmed that elections are expected in December 2026 but expressed confidence in her party’s victory.
Additionally, a monument honoring Čučuk Stana, the wife of Hajduk Veljko, will soon be erected in Negotin.
