The Minister of Energy, Aleksandar Antic, congratulated all miners and employees in the mining sector of Serbia on August 6 – Miners’ Day. He expressed full respect for the people who deal with one of the most difficult and responsible jobs for their conscientious work, and on that solemn occasion announced further state support, primarily in improving their safety and protection at work, the Ministry of Mining and Energy announced.
Aleksandar Antic said that the mining sector of Serbia is one of the most dynamic parts of the economy, it employs about 29,000 people, which is an increase of 11.9 percent compared to the same period in 2019, and is one of the backbones of our economy.
In the past period, the state has clearly shown that it cares about the mining sector, primarily about its modernization, continuous improvement of environmental standards and safety at work, but also about its development and market potentials, the statement said.
“Serbia has been a leader in this part of Europe for years when it comes to attracting foreign investments, and the mining sector is unavoidable in that regard. Our capacities are such that they give us the right to expect even greater investments in the mining sector, opening new ones and modernization of existing mines, additional research and exploitation, which all means new jobs, a higher standard of employees and even better working conditions,” said Antic.
He notes that the mining business is difficult, perhaps the most difficult, but at the same time it is very attractive in Serbia and motivates young people to dedicate themselves to it, because it guarantees a good income and a secure existence.
“The state of Serbia will continue to treat its ore resources in a domestic and responsible manner, because it sees huge potential for its overall development in them,” Antic pointed out.
He adds that “we have high expectations from investments in the modernization of the mine in Bor, the opening of the mine ‘Cukaru Peki’ and the mine ‘Jadar’, a total of about three billion dollars in the next few years, which will raise our mining sector to an even higher level,” Antic said.
In addition, intensive work is being done on geological research in the area of Bor, Resavica, in the Timok complex, and of course in our large coal mines in Kolubara and Kostolac, and adds that all this together speaks of the constant growth of our mining sector and increasing its participation in GDP of Serbia.
“Mining is our strategic branch and its importance is not only in the new millions of tons of mined and processed ore, but also in the fact that its growth raises the economy and standard of entire regions of our country. We want our mining areas, such as eastern and western Serbia, to be regions. Young people stay to work, start their families and live comfortably in a clean and healthy environment, and that is why we invest a lot of effort and money to ensure such conditions. We have already done a lot, many new jobs have been started, and even more is ahead of us,” said the Minister of Mining and Energy.
That is why, he says, this August 6, we have many reasons to “proudly say that Serbia is a country of hardworking and professional miners and a country of large mining industry and even greater potentials, which we are rapidly putting into full function.”
“Once again, I wish all employees in the mining sector of Serbia a happy holiday and many more successes, with the traditional mining greeting – Good luck!,” Antic congratulated, RTS reports.
