Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), through its TENT division, submitted a request to the Ministry of Environmental Protection for an environmental impact study regarding the reconstruction of the combustion system at Nikola Tesla B Power Plant, Block B2. The project aims to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions through primary measures and replacement of boiler pipe components.
The modernization includes installing eight new low-NOx coal burners, adding two new overfire air levels (OFA1 and OFA2), and replacing existing air channels, slag removers, compensators, and ash chutes. All work will be conducted within the existing structure without altering its dimensions.
The upgraded system is expected to lower NOx emissions below 200 mg/Nm³ (O₂ = 6%), aligning with EU regulations and Serbia’s National Emission Reduction Plan. For reference, NOx concentrations in 2024 in both B1 and B2 blocks were 403 mg/m³, more than double the permitted limit.
This modernization is part of EPS’s broader effort to meet European environmental standards, ensuring continued operation after 2027, improving combustion efficiency, and reducing air pollution. TENT B, with two 665 MW blocks, remains a key contributor to Serbia’s energy system stability, consuming over 11 million tons of Kolubara lignite annually.
