Dušan Nikezić, Vice President of the Freedom and Justice Party (SSP), addressed Dušan Živković, Director of Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), stating that countries with nuclear power plants are not necessarily highly energy secure. Instead, he emphasized that true energy security comes from professional and expert management of power companies. Nikezić criticized EPS leadership as being composed of unqualified political appointees.

In a written statement publicly directed at Živković, Nikezić pointed out that countries like Austria, Norway, Denmark and Poland do not have nuclear power plants yet maintain strong energy security through responsible and professional management of their power systems.

He highlighted Serbia’s abundant natural resources for electricity production, including thermal, hydro, wind, and solar capacities, and noted that Serbia was a net electricity exporter for decades until the current ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) took control. According to Nikezić, under SNS leadership and the appointment of Minister Grčić, EPS has fallen into operational and financial collapse.

Nikezić also criticized the EPS leadership for their political alignment, noting that they all attended President Vučić’s political rally on April 12, alongside ministers and senior government officials, demonstrating their loyalty to political interests over professional management.

He concluded by saying that EPS is a reflection of this collapse, led by politically appointed, unprofessional leaders following the path set by Grčić and Vučić. Nikezić warned that even building a nuclear power plant would not save Serbia’s energy system under such leadership — it would only worsen the situation, with potentially devastating consequences for the entire region.
