State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy Dragan Stevanovic spoke with representatives of workers of the Copper Tube Factory in Majdanpek and the municipality’s management about the developments in that factory and said that the ministry would help in finding a final solution.
The meeting, which discussed production shutdown at the plant and the company’s decision to change operations and shut down its production facility, was attended by Nenad Djordjevic of the Independent Trade Union of Serbia and Vladimir Savkovic of the Industrial Trade Union of Serbia, as well as Majdanpek Mayor Dragan Popovic and his associates.
“The most important thing for the Ministry of Economy is that workers’ representatives have shown a high degree of responsibility and maturity when it comes to the position of companies and employees”, Stevanovic said, adding that he believes that in this way he will also face the challenges that await them in the coming period.
The workers’ representatives stated that they expected to exercise the rights to the social program in accordance with the law, and that they would also help the local government and the state to come to Majdanpek with a new investor, thus providing new jobs for themselves, and the municipalities with the revenues that belong to it.
The participants of the meeting agreed that everything should be done to prevent the events in the factory from political abuse by irresponsible and politically malicious individuals, because, as they pointed out, this does not bring a solution, and the unenviable position of workers should not be subject to political manipulation.
It is necessary, they agreed, to work together and vigorously, engaging each one from their own angle and in accordance with their respective competences, to solve the new problem as soon as possible.
Stevanovic reiterated that the Ministry of Economy will monitor the situation and take an active part in accordance with its competencies, and that it will be available to all during the resolution of the current situation, Dnevnik reports.
