The construction of the main building at the New Belgrade bus station in Block 42 faces renewed uncertainty due to repeated tender cancellations and allegations of corruption.
The Republic Commission for the Protection of Bidders’ Rights is set to review objections after the Construction Land Directorate of Belgrade once again awarded the contract to the consortium led by the company “Jadran” at the end of August. This decision has already been contested by other bidders.
According to the Center for Local Self-Government, “Jadran” is closely linked to the ruling party and Mayor Aleksandar Šapić and has previously received numerous state contracts, including a 5 billion dinar reconstruction of the Museum of the City of Belgrade. The current bus station project is valued at 5.57 billion dinars.
The center warned that repeated tender issues and corruption concerns may result in Belgrade hosting EXPO 2027 without the main bus station being completed.
