Serbian Minister of Economy and Finance Mladjan Dinkic stated on Monday that a public call for the beginning of privatization of public company for underground coal exploitation Resavica will be issued in September.

The talks between Serbian national air carrier Jat and the air carrier of the United Arab Emirates Etihad are developing well, and other public companies need to consolidate while for some of them future owners have to be carefully chosen, Dinkic said.

The tender for Resavica, eastern Serbia, will be prepared by the Ministry of Energy, Dinkic said in a parliamentary debate on the budget review, adding that the privatization of Resavica is a part of the government’s package of measures based on which the government was excluded from shareholding and managing public companies.

The talks on the cooperation between Jat Airways and Etihad are developing well, Dinkic said, and expressed hope that the government will soon be able to inform the MPs about the outcome of the talks.

Pharmaceutical company Galenika, whose privatization failed, will have to consolidate urgently and reduce the number of workers, Dinkic said.

Speaking about Serbia’s financial sector, he said that there will be no rush with the privatization of Dunav Osiguranje and Cacanska Banka, adding that in case a good strategic partner appears the government will be ready to privatize these companies.

“If strong investors get interested, the government’s stance is that the Belgrade airport will be available for a long-term lease and management with mandatory investing, and in that case the government and the citizens, as small shareholders, would remain the owners of the capital of the public company,” Dinkic said.
