Energy Minister Aleksandar Antic said that currently energy companies are investing most in environmental protection and that somewhere around 500 million euros is the total amount of all projects.
Antic told TV Prva that after the first meeting of the Government Working Group on Systematic Resolution of Air Pollution, first measures were defined and that it is planned to adopt a National Pollution Reduction Plan at a subsequent government session.
He also said that the transition of plants to biomass would be intensified, and recalled that a few months ago a contract was signed for the biomass plants in Priboj and Mali Zvornik.
“Now the plan is Nova Varos, Prijepolje, Novi Pazar and Majdanpek”, Antic said.
He added that thermal power plants had no share in the latest wave of air pollution.
He stated that 475 million euros was invested in the Serbian power industry related to the thermal sector and pollution reduction.
“We have solved the electrostatic precipitators, there is no strip contamination, no particles, we are working on desulphurisation. We did it on Kostolac, we work on TENT A, and we just finished funding for TENT B”, Antic said.
Talking about the involvement of small fireboxes in pollution, he said that the switch to gas and district heating systems needed to be promoted.
“We will do a lot to make it easier for citizens to connect to gas, and with that measure we will come out in the coming period”, Antic said.
As he said, the end of the Turkish Stream and the beginning of the transit of gas from that right will bring significant relief.
Despite public concern, Antic said, pollution in the last wave has averaged over the past ten years, writes Danas.
