The construction sector boosted Serbia’s GDP

The real growth of the gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2021, in relation to the same period of the previous year, amounted to 1.7 percent, and in relation to the non-previous quarter, 1.9 percent, the Republic Statistical Office announced today.
Observed by activities, in the first quarter of 2021, compared to the same period last year, a significant real growth of gross value added was recorded in the construction sector – 19.5 percent, in the wholesale and retail trade and repairs of motor vehicles, transport and storage and accommodation and food services 5.3 percent and the industry and water supply and wastewater management sector 3.5 percent.
A significant real decline in gross value added was recorded in the sector of professional, scientific, innovative and technical activities and administrative and support service activities – 6.6 percent, and in the sector of arts, entertainment and recreation, other service activities and household activities as an employer – 11.7 percent.
In the first quarter of 2021, compared to the same period last year, real growth was recorded in gross fixed capital formation, 10 percent and exports of goods and services 7.9 percent.
The real decline was recorded in final consumption expenditure of households – 1.9 percent, final consumption expenditure of non-profit institutions serving households (NPID) – 3.6 percent, final consumption expenditure by the state 0.6 percent and imports of goods and services 1.4 percent, according to the Republic Bureau of Statistics, BiF reports.
