The EU delegation continues to strengthen agriculture in Serbia

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Serbia and the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia will organize several joint events at the 88th International Agricultural Fair in Novi Sad.
The events were organized in cooperation with the IPA 2015 project “Strengthening the capacity for harmonization with the EU legal framework in the field of agriculture, rural development, food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary policy,” the EU Info Center announced.
On Monday, the promotional film “For successful and strong agriculture in Serbia” will be presented, in which farmers from different geographical regions of Serbia and agricultural branches present the path they have gone from founding farms to the success they achieve.
After the film, a round table with successful farmers will be organized, including some participants of the film, and then an online presentation of the European Commission representatives from the Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development Mariusz Legowski on the EU Common Agricultural Policy and its impact on young and small farmers.
A presentation on what the gradual transition to direct payments in agriculture will bring to Serbia will be organized on Tuesday.
An online presentation on the lessons learned from the new EU member states through the implementation of an integrated food and health safety policy and plant and animal welfare is also planned, which will be held by the representative of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Health and Food Safety, Vincent Auben.
Wednesday is reserved for the IPARD conference, which aims to raise public awareness of EU assistance in the field of agriculture and rural development in Serbia and to consider the possibilities of IPARD incentives for potential beneficiaries.
The campaign of the EU Delegation in Serbia “For our fields – the EU for agriculture” will also be presented.
On Thursday, experts will talk about successful European stories about biosecurity measures and the benefits that animal welfare represents for sustainable agriculture.
The European Union has supported agriculture and rural development in Serbia with more than 230 million euros from 2000 until today.
The funds are used to increase the competitiveness of farms, enterprises and processing capacities through the IPARD program, for animal welfare and control, maintaining land in good condition, establishing national reference laboratories, ensuring overall food safety, harmonizing agricultural policy, preparing public administration for EU standards, Danas reports.
