The Government of Serbia has adopted the Bill on the Protector of Citizens

Today, the Government of Serbia adopted the Bill on the Protector of Citizens with the goal, as it was announced after the session, to strengthen the independence of that institution in accordance with international standards.
The new legal solutions improve the provisions on the actions of the Protector of Citizens in the implementation of control over the work of bodies, in accordance with the competencies determined by the Constitution.
“The law contains provisions that are in accordance with the relevant conventions, ratified by Serbia, provided by ratification documents, ie action plans, and concern matters in the domain of the Protector of Citizens,” the Serbian government added in a statement.
The members of the government also adopted the Bill on Amendments to the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance, the aim of which is to establish mechanisms that should improve accountability and transparency in the work of public authorities.
The Commissioner for Free Access to Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection is given significant powers that should lead to the solutions from the law being applied as adequately as possible in practice, the statement added.
The amendments to the law also “significantly expand the circle of entities subject to legal obligations and improve the system of drafting and publishing information on the work of public authorities in accordance with the principle of proactive transparency, which means publishing as much information on the work of public authorities.”
The Government of Serbia has made a decision on the establishment of the Educational and Scientific Center “Coska-Rista Stajic” in Vranje.
This institution will, among other things, act as a true connecting and development factor and connect education with the economy, as well as national and local authorities and institutions.
In the conditions of constantly growing needs on the market, especially when it comes to the workforce, the Center is profiled as a place of continuous development of talented students of primary and secondary schools and faculties in the field of medicine, chemistry, physics and mathematics, it is added in the announcement, Danas reports.
