The implementation of capital projects has begun in order to establish an efficient system for solid waste management and wastewater treatment in Serbia

The Minister of Environmental Protection, Irena Vujovic, talked today with the Head of the Mission of the International Monetary Fund for Serbia, Jan Kees Martijn, about the results of the ministry in the previous period and the activities currently being carried out in the field of environmental protection.
Vujovic stated that numerous activities were carried out in order to improve air quality, and the realization of capital projects was started in order to establish an efficient system for solid waste management and wastewater treatment in Serbia.
“It is also significant that Serbia issued a green Eurobond for the first time, which provided one billion euros. These funds will be used exclusively to finance the proposed green projects and support the plan for green growth,” said Vujovic in a conversation via video link.
Vujovic also presented to the IMF Mission what has been done in the regulations.
“Serbia is one of the first countries in the Western Balkans to adopt the Law on Climate Change, and we are currently working on drafting a series of planning documents envisaged by this act. Amendments to the Law on Nature Protection and the Law on Protection from Environmental Noise have been adopted, and other laws are being prepared in which European Directives will be transposed,” she said.
