The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, Fuad Hussein, assessed in Belgrade that there is a mutual interest in increasing economic cooperation and trade exchange. Hussein called on Serbian companies to participate in rebuilding Iraqi capacities in various areas and help diversify the country’s economy.
The interlocutors expressed hope that a new Agreement on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation between Serbia and Iraq would be concluded soon, which would encourage the development of stronger ties in various fields, such as agriculture, construction, health and pharmaceutical industry, the Serbian Presidency said.
It was concluded that it is necessary to renew the work of the Joint Committee for Cooperation and establish contacts between the representatives of the business and social life of Serbia and Iraq.
President Vucic told Minister Hussein, who is leading his country’s delegation to mark the 60th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement, that the Serbian people have a sincere friendship with the Iraqi people, which is reflected in decades of good bilateral relations.
President Vucic thanked for the support that Iraq provides to the integrity and sovereignty of Serbia.
Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic also spoke with Hussein, emphasizing that the former Yugoslavia and Iraq had excellent relations both bilaterally and within the Non-Aligned Movement as founders, and that Serbia today proudly inherits the tradition of close cooperation with Iraq.
He conveyed Serbia’s interest in deepening the political dialogue between the two countries and intensifying high-level and top-level meetings, as well as making efforts to renew business ties, especially in the fields of agriculture, construction and tourism, N1 reports.
