Serbia’s Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said yesterday after the meeting with Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi that there will be no additional conditions on Serbia’s path towards the EU.
Speaking at a joint press conference at the Serbian government, Dacic said that the continuation of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and of the reforms launched are of crucial importance for Serbia’s European path, on which there will be no additional conditions apart from the agreements made in December last year.
The Serbian government pledged to continue dialogue with Pristina and the date of its continuation will be discussed as of September.
The Prime Minister announced that the production and export of cars made in the factory Fiat Automobili Srbija in Kragujevac will start in August at a smaller scale, noting that at the end of the year that factory will be exporting several dozen thousands of vehicles.
Dacic noted that Fiat, in addition to Benetton, is one of the largest Italian companies in Serbia.
In terms of economic cooperation between Serbia and Italy, the Prime Minister announced that the Serbian parliament should soon ratify the agreements on energy, based on which significant investments are expected from Italy.
Dacic and Terzi assessed that good economic and political cooperation between the two countries should continue, and that cooperation should deepen in the field of culture, at the level of universities and in many other areas.
Terzi stressed that Italy will continue to support Serbia’s European path, but that Serbia will have to implement certain reforms and to continue dialogue with Pristina.
He expressed belief that Serbia’s progress in these two fields will be recognised by the EU when Serbia’s progress report on European integration is submitted.
Terzi pointed out that dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina should be raised to a higher level, adding that the EU should engage High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Catherine Ashton in this process.
