Serbian Minister for Innovation and Technological Development Nenad Popovic spoke today via video conference with the executives of several leading Serbian IT companies to hear their suggestions on what measures Serbia needs to take to support the IT sector in the crisis caused by the spread of the virus corona worldwide.
This video meeting establishes a permanent channel of communication with the Serbian innovation and IT community, which will be constantly open during the crisis, the statement said.
“I wanted to hear smart people, the new Serbian tech elite, how they see this period of crisis and what measures we need to take to reduce the burden on the IT companies and the innovation community”, Popovic said.
He recalled that last year’s Serbian IT sector had exports of one billion and a half euros of digital services, products and services.
“It is the healthiest part of the Serbian economy. It is important that we jointly formulate measures to protect this sector from the effects of the crisis”, Popovic said.
According to him, such meetings will be held if needed on a daily basis, as the situation in the country and the environment is changing on a daily basis, which is why it is important to quickly adapt to new circumstances and respond in a timely manner.
Representatives of the IT and innovation community pointed out the key problems they are facing at the moment, which are related to the issue of liquidity, tax burdens, staff maintenance.
They said that the whole community was in solidarity with the most vulnerable groups in times of crisis, expressing their readiness to help everyone within this sensitive moment to the state and society.
Representatives of Microsoft, Telegroup, Saga, No Solutions, as well as Startit, the Digital Community, the Young Business Association and others participated in the meeting, Novi Magazin reports.
