The World Bank can help Serbia reduce pollution

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic spoke with World Bank spokeswoman Kseniya Lvovsky about opportunities for cooperation and finding ways the World Bank could help address air pollution, water and waste management.
According to a statement from the Government of Serbia, Lvovsky leads the World Bank on global environmental, natural resources and blue economy practices for Europe and Central Asia.
The Prime Minister of Serbia emphasized that environmental protection is becoming one of Serbia’s most important challenges and that progress in this area is an important segment of social development.
World Bank representatives stressed the need to find a support mechanism for Serbia, as well as the region as a whole, in order to best devise a long-term and sustainable plan for addressing all environmental issues.
It has been stated that it is crucial to encourage the use of renewable energy sources and to switch to the use of biomass as a primary energy source, as well as cooperation and involvement of all levels of government in finding the most effective measures.
When it comes to air pollution, Prime Minister Brnabic said that the Government of Serbia has also established a special Working Group that proposes necessary measures to protect the environment and coordinates the work of relevant state bodies in this area.
According to her, the Government of Serbia has also adopted the National Plan for the Reduction of Major Pollutant Emissions from Old Large Combustion Plants, which commits itself to making significant strides in reducing pollutant emissions from large energy plants.
At the meeting, which was attended by the Minister of the Environment Goran Trivan and the Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic, it was agreed that concrete measures of World Bank support to Serbia would be specified in the coming period, Danas reports.
