Amelo, a company within the Trans Oil group, will construct a corn processing plant on the former Šećerana site in Sremska Mitrovica. The project, announced by Mayor Branislav Nedimović, is set to begin construction this fall with an investment exceeding €30 million. The new factory will employ around 150 workers and produce corn starch for the food, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries.

Mayor Nedimović highlighted this as one of the largest food industry investments in Serbia in the past 40–50 years.

Trans Oil Group is a major agro-industrial conglomerate specializing in oilseed processing, grain storage and trade, and edible oil and flour production. With approximately 2,800 employees, the group manages the entire supply chain from raw material procurement to export. It owns five oilseed processing plants across Moldova, Romania, and Serbia, along with 49 storage facilities and six export terminals in Ukraine, Moldova, and Serbia, boasting a total transshipment capacity of over six million tons annually.
