The successful certification of Transportgas Srbija as an independent transport system operator was confirmed during a meeting between Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović Handanović and the newly appointed director, Zoran Jovčić. This achievement, recognized by the Energy Community, marks a significant step forward in Serbia’s energy sector reforms.
Minister Đedović Handanović highlighted that obtaining the certification from the Energy Agency is a crucial milestone for Serbia, demonstrating progress in its gas sector reforms. This development comes after fulfilling all the targets outlined in the Reform Agenda, particularly those relating to the power sector, which are set to be completed by December 2024. The certification process, which has been ongoing for over 11 years, was seen as a challenging but necessary step. The minister credited the successful completion of the process to the dedicated efforts of Transportgas, Srbijagas, and the Energy Agency, all of whom worked together to meet the requirements set by the European Commission.
The meeting also addressed other ongoing goals of the reform agenda that are scheduled for completion by June 2025, as part of the broader Reform Agenda for Serbia 2024-2027. These goals are focused on further improving the gas sector, ensuring security of supply, and supporting the implementation of new projects.
Minister Đedović Handanović emphasized the importance of strengthening Transportgas Srbija’s capacities to ensure a more prominent role in the country’s energy system, particularly concerning supply security. The representatives of Transportgas Serbia also briefed the minister on their short-term and long-term business priorities, including proposed changes to the collective agreement and plans to modernize the gas transport infrastructure as part of their ten-year development plan.
