Turkish company Fortis Energy will begin construction of a solar power plant in Sremska Mitrovica this spring, on 300 hectares of private land in the Mačva region near Drenovac. The project has received a building permit, while the energy transmission permit is expected within the next three months, according to Sremska Mitrovica Mayor Branislav Nedimović.
The solar park will have an installed capacity of 270 MW—about one-fifth of the Đerdap hydroelectric plant—and is considered one of the largest renewable energy projects in Serbia, with significant regional impact.
Fortis Energy had previously acquired a 180 MW solar project with a 36 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Sremska Mitrovica, expected to become one of the largest solar plants and energy storage systems in Southeast Europe.
