Turkish renewable energy developer Fortis Energy has obtained a construction permit for a large-scale solar power and battery storage project near Sremska Mitrovica in northern Serbia. The permit covers the development of a 270 MWp photovoltaic power plant combined with a 72 MWh battery energy storage system, positioning the project among the largest integrated solar-plus-storage facilities in the region.

The project also holds approval for a 180 MW AC grid connection, enabling substantial power delivery to Serbia’s transmission system once operational. The site is located south of the Sava River, near the village of Drenovac, and construction is planned to begin in the second quarter of 2026.

According to project documentation, the permitting process was carried out in coordination with local authorities, with technical and environmental requirements addressed as part of the approval procedure. The installation is expected to contribute meaningfully to Serbia’s renewable energy capacity while improving grid flexibility through the integration of battery storage.

The Sremska Mitrovica project forms part of Fortis Energy’s broader regional expansion strategy, under which the company aims to significantly increase its installed renewable capacity in Southeast Europe over the coming years.
