Serbian oil company NIS has announced that it has been sanctioned by the United States following multiple delays. The company stated that its special license from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, which allows for uninterrupted operations, has not been renewed.
Since being listed on the SDN (Specially Designated Nationals) list in January, NIS has been monitoring the situation closely and adjusting its operations accordingly. The company emphasized that its top priorities remain the regular supply of petroleum products to the domestic market and maintaining social stability for employees.
NIS confirmed that it currently has sufficient oil reserves for processing, and gas stations are fully supplied with all types of fuels. In case foreign payment cards such as MasterCard or Visa stop functioning, payments at gas stations will be possible via the domestic “Dina” card, cash, or the “IPS pokaži” method. Other cards, including “Sa nama na putu,” Agro, and Taxi cards, will remain operational without interruption. Wholesale payments in dinars will also continue without issues, and NIS affirmed its commitment to fulfilling all contractual obligations with corporate clients and large buyers. Corporate payment cards will continue to function normally.
Working in cooperation with partners, the Serbian government, and shareholders, NIS is striving to overcome the current situation. The company continues to engage with the U.S. Department of the Treasury regarding its request to be removed from the SDN list, which was initially submitted on March 14 and supplemented on September 28. NIS noted that delisting is a lengthy and complex process.
