Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Serbia and Minister of Mining and Energy, Prof. Dr. Zorana Mihajlovic, attended today at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce a presentation on industrial waste management, recycling and obtaining new energy.
On that occasion, Mihajlovic stated that there will be no economic development and GDP growth if the competitiveness of the company is not at a higher level.
– In the previous department, we worked a lot with the Chamber of Commerce, because nothing that the state brings from laws, strategies and plans can function if it is not in the closest relationship with businessmen. Another important thing that is changing in Serbia is that energy and environmental protection can no longer do without each other, in order to raise competitiveness to a higher level. We will do everything up to the Ministry of Energy, in terms of laws and documents. We want to have climate-neutral development, to work further in the process of decarbonisation and together with the economy on further environmental protection and increased competitiveness. The goal is to create conditions and use more waste in energy production – she said.
Irena Vujovic, Minister of Environmental Protection, thanked the SCC for this presentation.
– We have a problem with waste management in Serbia and we are in the mood to do everything necessary to improve it. Landfill capacity will be significantly brought under control by the introduction of alternative fuels. We will gladly accept any kind of suggestion to solve the biggest problems – she said.
Milun Trivunac, advisor to the president of PKS, said that there is no area in which there is more potential, which we have used on a small level so far, and that with today’s presentation, the Chamber of Commerce contributes to further improvement of this area.
Dimitrije Knjeginjic, director of the company “Lafarge Serbia”, stated that this topic is of key importance for the economy.
– Competitiveness and sustainability are the two most important segments of every company. The obligations undertaken by “Lafarge” refer to a drastic reduction of CO2, which does not exist without the use of alternative quality fuel. For everyone in the sector who uses thermal energy from traditional sources, this is important, we need to introduce high-quality alternative fuels, to approve imports to help our sustainability and competitiveness – he said, Novosti reports.
