Wizz Air, the Hungarian low-cost airline, has decided to comply with upcoming American sanctions targeting the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS), which is expected to be enforced in the coming days. NIS is the sole company in Serbia that processes and supplies aviation fuel for passenger and general aviation aircraft.

According to information obtained by Tango Six, Wizz Air made this decision due to Hungary’s commitment to adhering to the sanctions, leading the airline to suspend its fuel supply from NIS as of 3 p.m. yesterday.

In practical terms, this means that Wizz Air’s planes based in Belgrade will now need to refuel during technical stops in Budapest or Timisoara. This shift will inevitably increase operational costs and complicate daily operations for the airline.

It’s also worth noting that American companies have a stake in Wizz Air’s ownership and capital structure.
