The state has earmarked more than 9.5 million euros to support local governments seeking to create better infrastructure to attract investors, the New Economy reports.

The total amount of 9.5 million euros is intended to equip business zones and connect them to the environment, or to improve infrastructure capacity for the development of tourism and other activities.

“The aim of the Program is to enhance the development potential of local self-government units by creating favorable conditions for attracting investments, improving the economic environment and creating new jobs”, the Ministry of Economy said in an official invitation.

Funds can be applied for by local governments in the territory of which a specific project is planned. If the project is implemented by more than one local government unit, they apply together for the funds.

The Ministry of Economy participates in the financing of the project by a certain percentage, depending on the level of development of the local self-government unit.

The Ministry will finance up to 100 percent of the value of the project without VAT for local self-government units from the fourth and third development groups, and up to 60 percent for those from the second and first groups.

The fourth group includes 44 local self-governments whose level of development is below 60 percent of the national average, and the third group 47 whose development is between 60 and 80 percent of the national average.
