Free industrial zone Priboj has been created as part of the Serbian government’s efforts to find a solution for the heavy commercial vehicles maker FAP, currently under restructuring, and the benefits that the zone offers will attract new investors, assistant head of the municipality of Priboj in southwestern Serbia Krsto Janjusevic told Tanjug.

“The zone is located on the premises of an old FAP production facility, and covers an area of 21 hectares, including 5.5 ha of brownfield land,” he said, adding that the land and the buildings are the property of the local self-government and managed by the company Industrijski Parkovi d.o.o.

Investors operating in free zones are offered a beneficial taxation regime, exemption from VAT and customs duties on imported raw materials and materials to be used in the production of goods intended for exports, machinery and equipment, said Janjusevic.

“In addition to these essential benefits, the local self-government will offer various other benefits to all investors, in line with its powers, such as the ones related to local taxes and fees, with an aim to create the best business environment possible,” said Janjusevic, adding that negotiations were already underway with several foreign companies which expressed interest in operating in the Priboj free zone.

The local self-government enjoys full support of the government of Serbia in the negotiation process, added Janjusevic.
