Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic and his Estonian counterpart Urmas Paet said yesterday that bilateral relations of the two countries are good and that the economy is the area where there is most room for their improvement.

Jeremic said at a joint press conference with Paet that there are no differences in attitudes between Estonia and Serbia regarding the European perspective of the Western Balkans, and announced the continuation of cooperation in this field.

During yesterday’s session, Jeremic informed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia about the situation in the region, as well as about Belgrade’s stance regarding the crisis in northern Kosovo-Metohija.

He also briefed Paet about diplomatic efforts Serbia will make in the weeks to come in order to mitigate consequences of the crisis in the north of the province which was not provoked by the Serbs, but caused by unilateral acts of Pristina.

Estonia’s Foreign Minister reiterated that his country strongly supports Serbia and other Western Balkan countries on their path towards the EU, and expressed hope that accession negotiations between Serbia and the EU might start already at the end of this year.

In order for this to happen, Serbia must complete the tasks set on its European path, which means that it must implement reforms, Paet said.

Serbia is doing that job well, he noted, and the progress is visible and appropriate, which is a good basis for the EU to make a decision on the start of accession negotiations.

He stated that Estonia is willing to help Serbia in the European integration process with its experience.

Paet added that he also met today with Minister of Economy and Regional Development Nebojsa Ciric, with whom he discussed the strengthening of cooperation, particularly in the fields of energy and exploration of oil resources.

Cooperation in the field of information technologies was also discussed, he added.
