Serbia’s government plans to sign an agreement with US civil engineering group Bechtel for the construction of a road connecting Trans-European transport Corridors X and XI in the short term, infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said.

The government will sign in the short term a cooperation agreement with Bechtel on the construction of the motorway, which will link Cacak to Krusevac, in central Serbia, Mihajlovic said, as quoted in a statement by the Serbian government on Sunday.

In June 2017, the infrastructure ministry said Bechtel has expressed interest in participating in the construction of the motorway, known as the Morava Corridor.

The government said in June it is currently modifying the project documentation for one of the three sections of the motorway, in order to protect it from flooding in the zone of the West Morava river.

Corridor X will connect Salzburg in Austria to the Greek port of Thessaloniki, passing through Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia. Corridor XI is a ferry/motorway corridor linking Italy’s Bari to Romania’s Bucharest via Montenegro’s Bar port and Serbia’s Belgrade.
