Serbia needs World Bank assistance to continue reforms and accelerate economic growth, said Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to the regional director of The World Bank for the Western Balkans, Europe and Central Asia, Linda Van Gelder.

“Four percent growth is good for Balkan conditions, but Serbia wants, can and must increase its growth rate to more than six percent annually”, Vucic said.

To achieve this, he said, “we need tremendous World Bank assistance, especially in the area of labor productivity, in financing and supporting successful domestic companies and in introducing new financial instruments that will drive growth”.

Vucic’s cabinet said that Gelder pointed out that in order to join the most developed European countries, Serbia would have to “strengthen and accelerate the reform process in various spheres of social life, especially in public enterprises, local governments, and in finding a new funding methodology for new, successful and unencumbered Serbian companies”.

She added that the 2014 reforms have produced great results for Serbia.

At a meeting attended by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, another meeting was arranged between the President of Serbia and World Bank representatives before presenting the “Serbia 2025” plan announced for the end of this year, reports Novi Magazin.
