NIS has signed a contract for the acquisition of modern INDMAX technology and a base project for the modernization of the catalytic cracking plant (FCC) at the Pancevo Oil Refinery with the renowned international company Lummus Technology (part of the McDermott Group). The contract, which is part of a project worth around 80 million dollars, was signed at the Business Center of the company in Belgrade by Vladimir Gagic, director of NIS Processing Unit and Maurice Korpelshoek, director of marketing technology at Lummus Technology.

The implementation of this project will bring numerous business and environmental benefits to NIS. New technologies will help increase propylene production, and a plant for the production of ETBE (high octane gasoline components) will be built, which will further increase the value of the refinery basket. Also, finalizing the project, which is planned by the second quarter of 2024, will mean improving the environment through the reduction of particulate emissions, and will also allow for more efficient production of bio-gasoline.

NIS has a long-standing cooperation with Lummus Technology. The MHC/DHT complex (for mild hydrocracking and hydrotreating), a key project of the first phase of the Refinery’s modernization and the Deep Processing Plant, as a capital project of the second phase of the NIS processing facilities, were built under the licenses of Lummus Technology. The Pancevo Oil Refinery is one of the most modern refineries in this part of Europe with a maximum annual installed capacity of 4.8 million tonnes.

Concerning the signing of the contract, Vladimir Gagić, director of the NIS Processing Unit, stated:

“NIS operates in a very demanding regional market for petroleum products and that is why our commitment is to constantly improve the competitiveness of the Pancevo Oil Refinery with constant modernization. The procurement of new technology and the construction of a new facility at the Refinery is a new step in increasing the value of our product basket, and the environmental effects that we will achieve are equally important to us. It is a great pleasure to work with this reputable project with reputable companies like Lummus Technology, our long-standing partner in the modernization of NIS processing facilities”, reports Politika.
