President Aleksandar Vucic met with a delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Mission chief Jan Case Martine.
The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, today met with representatives of the International Monetary Fund’s mission, led by Mission Chief Jan Case Martine, to discuss macroeconomic developments and reforms in Serbia.
The meeting began at 11 a.m. in the General Secretariat General of the Presidential Office, the President’s Office for Media Relations announced.
President Vucic emphasized that Serbia is committed to maintaining financial stability and further implementing reforms in order to achieve faster economic growth, create new jobs and improve the living standards of all citizens.
The Head of Mission, Martine, said that Serbia’s economic results were very good, and especially welcomed the successful completion of the privatization process of Commercial Bank.
The interlocutors noted that progress had been made in the cooperation program with the support of the Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI). The meeting also concluded that economic activity recorded a high growth rate for the second year in a row, as evidenced by the fact that in 2019 an increase of 4.2% was achieved, which is higher than the original projection of 3.5%. Increased investment activity, increased exports of goods and an increase in personal consumption of households due to higher disposable income have all significantly influenced this GDP growth.
One of the topics of the meeting was the redefinition of existing fiscal rules in order to ensure the preservation of fiscal sustainability. The meeting also discussed the further implementation of tax administration reform, followed by public sector reform, as well as the management of public investment and state-owned enterprises.
Prime Minister Ana Brnabic will also meet with the IMF delegation, Srbija Danas reports.
