Serbia’s Agency for Electronic Communications (Ratel) issued a statement saying it has not received a request from the company Targo to provide fixed telephony services in Serbia. The regulator said it does not have any data on the operator, pointing out that fixed telephony licenses have so far been issued to three companies – Telekom Srbija, Telenor and Orion. According to Ratel, even if Targo Telecom had a licence it would not be able to start work before 1 January 2012. The reaction came after a report by the Al Jazeera Balkans channel claiming that Serbia would get another fixed telephony operator by the end of the year. The broadcaster also said that the new venture is backed by Slovenian businessmen and, besides telephony, would offer analogue and digital TV and internet access.
