The video game industry in Serbia brings in between 50 and 100 million dollars a year, and the number of players literally broke all records during the pandemic.
Despite the corona crisis, companies in this industry are still hiring new people.
A study by the professional association “Bitkom” published in Berlin showed that the pandemic has produced dizzying growth in the gaming industry, because people spend more time at home, playing video games. The same situation is in Serbia, they say in the Serbian Association of Video Game Industry (SGA).
SGA manager Kristina Jankovic said that in the previous months, the sales of games, the number of downloads and the sale of consoles grew in various markets from 30 to 80 percent.
Games for mobile devices are mostly made in Serbia
According to her, new games are still being made, and dozens of new jobs have been created in various companies. In Serbia, most work is done on games for mobile devices, because it is most suitable for smaller teams, which do not yet have the funds for more complex projects.
The gaming industry has proven to be very resistant to the consequences of the pandemic, Jankovic pointed out. Moreover, the crisis has had a positive effect on this industry, because, as she explained, “the number of players has literally broken all records.”
The video game industry in Serbia brings in between 50 and 100 million dollars a year, and currently employs about 1,500 people. More than half of the total of 75 members of the SGA hire new staff every year, even now during the pandemic, Jankovic emphasized.
New employment platform
She stated that the platform “SGA Jobs” was recently launched, in order to help those interested to find a job in this activity more easily. All vacancies are listed on the platform, and a career guide for beginners has been made.
Although this industry is relatively young in Serbia, our country is already well positioned on the global market, thanks to companies such as Nordeus and 3Lateral, but also to world names that are present here, such as Ubisoft and Playridge, said Jankovic, Srbija Danas reports.
