The Austrian chain Spar currently has no plans to invest in the Serbian retail market, the head of the project development department at ASPIAG, Christian Sperger, told Retail Serbia.
On the other hand, according to the portal, the Russian Torgservis group is preparing to enter the Serbian market.
According to unofficial information, ASPIAG (Austria Spar International AG), as the owner of the Spar license for Serbia, did examine the market, but the management gave up, allegedly due to the high price of retail space.
Spar has already tried to enter Serbia several times.
It was planned to enter for the first time in 2007 by building hypermarkets in Belgrade and Vojvodina, then by acquiring certain retail chains, but after detailed analyzes, those plans were abandoned, Danas reports.
