This year, for the first time, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia and the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM) will award one of the 31 local governments that participated in the “European Mobility Week” project with eight thousand euros, it was announced today.
Among local governments, which participated in the “European Mobility Week” whose founder and patron is the European Commission, and the goal is to pollute transportation and traffic as little as possible, the Municipality of Cajetina also participated with the “Zlatibor Gondola”, and Uzice organized the action “16,000 trees for 16,000 fireboxes”.
Vrnjacka Banja reconstructed pedestrian paths and built a three-kilometer mountain trail, while Kula announced 40 kilometers of bicycle paths with the action “I don’t use a car today”.
Belgrade has nominated a footbridge that connects Kalemegdan with the Sava port, the expansion of the pedestrian zone in the center, the Sakinac pedestrian path on Avala, the construction of bicycle paths and the “BG for all” application.
In order to become one of the leading cities in Europe in terms of sustainable mobility and alternative modes of transport and traffic in general, like Amsterdam, Vienna and Ljubljana, Belgrade should soon adopt its plan for that.
Krusevac introduced electric vehicles “Kolibri”, while Sabac reconstructed the squares and arranged them to be adapted for people with disabilities.
The representative of the SCTM, Klara Danilovic, stated that the plans for sustainable urban mobility are not yet legally binding for the cities and municipalities of Serbia, however, their interest in that is growing.
“Our cities see in these plans a chance to solve acute traffic problems, reduce air pollution, improve the attractiveness and image of the city, as well as access to European funds,” said Danilovic.
This year, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure and the SCTM took over the coordination of the activities of the “European Mobility Week” campaign, which is partly implemented within the program “Support to Local Governments in Serbia on the Road to the EU – Second Phase”, funded by the Swedish Government, Danas reports.
