General Manager of Srbijagas has said on Wednesday that the main details of a ten-year contract, which stipulates that gas will be supplied from Russia at a lower price, have been agreed.

However, he did not specify the extent to which the price would be lower, since the talks between Serbia and Russia are still under way.

That means that Serbia’s gas import costs will be reduced, and “whether that would affect the price of gas which is paid by citizens will depend on oscillations in the market gas price, which is now at around USD 525 for 1,000 m3,” Bajatovic told journalists in Pancevo, and recalled that the price of gas depends on oil price fluctuations in the global market.

It has been agreed that, under the long-term contract which will come into effect as of 2012, Serbia will receive 5 billion m3 of gas annually, Bajatovic said, adding that Serbia now imports around 2 billion m3 of gas on an annual level.

The long-term agreement between Serbia and Russia, which should be ratified in the Serbian parliament is a basis for concluding the commercial contract on gas supply for Serbia, Bajatovic said, adding that for the first quarter of 2012, the current contract on gas supply will be annexed, until the new inter-state agreement between Serbia and Russia is adopted in the parliament.
