Serbia is achieving good results in numerous fields of information security and has a significant awareness of the existing shortcomings and opportunities for capacity building in this area, the World Bank assessed today.
The analysis conducted by the World Bank with the support of the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications established that Serbia is largely committed to resolving the issue of information security, and emphasized the comprehensiveness of its information security policy and the appropriate legal basis.
It was also assessed that Serbia has significant capacities for the development of knowledge in the field of information security, both through continuous professional development and through academic channels, with the support of the increasingly strong domestic information industry.
“Serbia has set out in detail the key topics of the national strategy for the development of information security, including response to incidents, protection of ICT infrastructure of vital importance and determination of bodies responsible for information security in Serbia,” said Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Tatjana Matic.
She also stated that such a systemic approach enables the establishment of a stable environment for the development of this field, which is considered the foundation of efficient digitalization.
“In addition to further improving the information security of state institutions and the economy, we will focus on increasing citizens’ awareness of the importance of data protection and information security, since cyber security is a prerequisite for developing a sustainable and successful modern society and economy,” she said.
As he stated in the analysis, the great demand for information security in the economy makes it difficult for the public sector to retain experts in this field, which is recognized as one of the questions that need to be answered.
It was determined that improvements are needed in improving the awareness of citizens about the risks to privacy on the Internet, as well as accelerating the adoption of information security standards and good practices, both in small and large companies, the World Bank said in a statement, Nova reports.
