Thermal power plants in Serbia will not be closed

I believe that we will quickly complete the work plan of our thermal capacities by 2050, said the Minister of Mining and Energy, Zorana Mihajlovic.
“Also, thermal power plants will not close as we hear these days,” she stated.
She states that the basic question is how TPPs will be made to produce energy in a more sustainable way, how to preserve the environment and how much money should be invested in order for thermal power plants to emit less harmful substances.
“Also, how will we go through that process without having a ban on the import and export of electricity, because we have TPPs on lignite or carbon taxes to be as low as possible,” said Mihajlovic as a guest on RTS.
She added that she has been listening to lies about the closure of thermal power plants until 2030, and that the right information is the most important thing in such long processes.
“There is always some kind of manipulation. My message to the workers is to trust the state and to know that no one will lose their job,” the minister said.
As it was announced from Zorana Mihajlovic’s office, she stated that a plan will be made jointly and publicly by 2050, and the essence is that the TPPs will be sustainable.
“We are already building a lot of facilities, EPS is an investor for many important projects. A very important project is Kostolac B3, which must be completed, and we must think carefully about all other projects in the thermal sector, now there is no plan to build new ones,” concluded Mihajlovic, B92 reports.
