Last year, Serbia exported 2,701 tons of honey worth 13,096,000 euros, which is 46% more than in 2019. Honey was mostly exported to Italy, Norway and Germany, the PKS announced. The potentials for the export of Serbian honey and honey products are the markets of Poland, Saudi Arabia and South Africa, says Igor Kronja from the Center for Information Support and Foreign Trade Analytics of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.
– Last year, Italy became the dominant export market and replaced Norway from the first place, which was the main importer of honey in 2018 and 2017. Of the individual markets, the largest growth in exports was recorded to the German market, where exports increased by 1.77 million euros – Kronja points out.
Along with the growing consumer demand on the domestic market and the development of awareness of the positive effects of natural honey, the demand for this product on the world markets is expected to grow in the coming period.
– There is a chance for Serbian honey and honey products, and the joint appearance of our producers on foreign markets would raise their visibility and competitiveness – says Kronja.
The Serbian Chamber of Commerce has activities aimed at internationalizing the business of domestic companies through joint appearances at fairs and visits of delegations, one of which is one of the most significant appearances at the world exhibition EXPO Dubai, where Serbian companies will be able to present their products to companies from around the world.
The global honey market is estimated at around 9.21 billion euros in 2020 and is expected to grow by 8.2% per year. Last year, our honey sweetened consumers in Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina the most.
– Exports to the markets of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of South Africa were also noticed, where some of our companies have already sent samples, and there are expectations that they will win new clients in these markets as well – says Kronja.
In 2021, incentives in the amount of 7 euros per hive have been provided for all beekeepers, eKapija reports.
