Swarovski to open factory in Subotica

Minister of Economy and Regional Development Nebojsa Ciric and Swarovski CEO Markus Langes-Swarovski signed tonight an agreement on the allocation of funds for direct investment.

The contract on ceding construction land was signed by the Mayor of Subotica Sasa Vucinic and CEO of the company Swarovski Markus Langes-Swarovski.

The signing ceremony was attended by Serbian President Boris Tadic and Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, Minister of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic and Austrian Ambassador to Serbia Clemens Koja.

Serbian President Boris Tadic expressed his satisfaction with the fact that Austrian company Swarovski will open a new factory in Subotica, where it plans to invest €21 million and employ 550 people.

He added that this is yet another evidence of improvement of the Austro-Serbian relations.

Tadic said that such investments provide the perspective for thousands of people in Serbia, adding that he hopes that Swarovski will expand its business in other cities across Serbia.

Serbia has once again demonstrated its competitiveness to attract investment and create jobs. This is the result of extensive work of this government and institutions, said the Serbian President.

He said that Austria is significantly, both politically and investment-wise, helping Serbia to build an effective civil society.
