Investors from Austria interested in Serbian agriculture

Minister of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management Dusan Petrovic said today in Vienna that obtaining the candidate status for EU membership reaffirmed Serbia as a place where investors are welcome.

Petrovic, who is on a working visit to Vienna, said after the meeting with Austrian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management Nikolaus Berlakovich that in Austria there is great interest in investing in our country.

The Minister said that there are great opportunities for Serbia and Austria to significantly improve economic cooperation in the field of food production, and recalled that foreign trade between the two countries is increasing.

Petrovic said that the main topic of the talks in Vienna was Austria’s participation as a partner country and its companies at a large agricultural fair which will be held in Novi Sad in May.

He said that the Austrian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management along the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management is the coordinator of the fair activities and expressed hope that major Austrian companies will be exhibiting at the fair.

He said that cooperation between Serbia and Austria in agriculture is a great opportunity for small and medium enterprises in Serbia, which can achieve great progress in the field of food processing.

Austria is one of the leading countries in the production of organic food, whose market in the EU is constantly increasing, he noted and added that in this respect, successful cooperation between relevant ministries is expected.

Berlakovich confirmed that Austria will continue to support Serbia on its path towards the EU and congratulated our country on obtaining the candidate status.

He said that there are many opportunities for cooperation with Serbia, in which Austria is very interested.

The participation at the Novi Sad fair from 12 to 18 May will intensify mutual cooperation, Berlakovich underlined and added that for Austria it is important to produce high-quality food and move towards ecological agriculture.
